The admin’s of streamlive have changed syntax and made changes to the mobile version of site, now we need a user agent switcher extension to access it. I have another simple workaround which i’m not going to post here, if anyone is interested hit me up on twitter or leave a comment. To re-enable the mobile version of site, install this User Agent Switcher Firefox Add-On and set it to use either Android or iOS #Cat&Mouse
[Update] I am noticing that m.streamlive.to (the mobile version of site) now points to streamlive.to (not mobile). Once you have found your desired stream, in the address bar delete the www and replace with an m.so we get the mobile webpage.
Since the livestreamer plugin for this site is broken, here’s a way to watch all streams from streamlive.to in your favourite media player, firstly click <– hyperlink find a stream you like, click it, you will see a player, right click player and highlight/click ‘copy video location’ like so .. Then open a new tab and paste in the video location URL from your clipboard to the address bar ..
An .m3u8 playlist file will begin downloading, normaly to /tmp, simply open it with your chosen media player [In Firefox preferences you can also set your player as default handler for the mimetypes(MP3 audio) (streamed) (audio/x-mpegurl)M3U8 filertmp
Stream will then begin playing in chosen player automagically]
I have tested this using firefox in Linux and OS X, thats all folks .. another nail in adobe flash coffin.
P.S To have it work in Windows we need to create our own .m3u8 playlist file see this older blog post.
If we go here http://m.streamlive.to and sign up using a bogus email; IE: mailinator we can view all the free streams from that site in our chosen local media player, if using Windows or OSX id recommend using VLC, if using a moar ethical OS (wherein you are not a commodity) i suggest using MPV. Once you have logged in then browse to the stream of your choice,
click the link which says “Play Link 1 (HLS) for iOS & Android”Above link has since been removed so we need to create our own .m3u8 playlist, see below.
In Firefox browser we can right click the video player and choose ‘copy video location’ paste it into new tab and the .m3u8 playlist will then download, have MPV/VLC open playlist file in settings under content, make MPV/VLC default handler for rtmp and mp3 streamed (audio/x-mpegurl) mimetypes, or open it manualy.
when clicked your browser will begin downloading a small .m3u8 playlist file, usually to the /tmp directory, all that’s required is to open that .m3u8 file with your media player (preferably MPV or VLC) and that’s it. happy viewing ..
Should your browser not be configured to automagically download the .m3u8 file after
clicking the “Play Link 1 (HLS) for iOS & Android” hyperlink, heres how to create your own .m3u8 playlist file …
Have a gander at this template .m3u8 playlist file, note the long URL on line 3 ..
If we then browse to chosen stream webpage and use browser to view the page source, line 146/465 gives us the relevant long url which is akin to the long URL in line 3 of the template .m3u8, replacing part of line 3 of the template file with same part of the long URL you have just copied from line 146 of the ‘page source’ will create your own playlist file, open it with MPV or VLC.
the ‘view page source’ looks like this .. replace the highlighted part of your chosen stream URL with whats in this template, once you have pasted in your chosen stream URL save the file as foo.m3u8, go ahead and make it executable and then open it in MPV or VLC.
In http://www.streamlive.to the page source’ we interested in is in one of these two lines of code ..
The URL’s change randomly so expect to have to do the same tomorrow to view same stream by simply swapping out old URL with the new, iv’e found both above and below URL’s will work. Just start the copy of URL from _definst_/ onward and paste into same part in the template.
In the mobile version of site http://m.streamlive.to the ‘page source’ we interested in is here ..
I figured i would write a tutorial for my Windows using brethren showing them the awesome livestreamer and how to go about installing and using this awesome bit of kit. Livestreamer allows us to watch a number of streaming services in VLC or any media player you choose, which is great as it does away with the need for flash, those who bother to check out livestreamer will see a marked improvement in video quality and the RAM footprint and CPU cycles are drastically decreased in comparison to when using browser to view streams.
The Windows installer can be found here the installer includes a compiled version of Livestreamer (that does not require an existing Python installation) and RTMPDump for viewing RTMP streams. It will also generate a default config file all that requires editing is just the #player line, remove the # comment and point the player line to your players .exe like you see in my .livestreamerrc (line 12) it would also be wise to ensure the line rtmpdump= points to the newly installed rtmpdump .exe (line 19 on my .livestreamerrc) the default directory for the .livestreamerrc is C:\Users\cirrus\AppData\Roaming\livestreamer. Once you have done that, then that is us finished, easy huh? now we want to find some sites which livestreamer has native plugins for, i will list a couple …
+ You Tube
To play the streams in Windows we open up the cygwin terminal (if installed) or the command prompt / powershell and simply type ..
livestreamer url of stream best
livestreamer http://vaughnlive.tv/1crime best
The chosen stream will then open in your chosen media player.
Livestreamer is in my top 5 applications and it is multi platform so Linux OSX and Windows users can benefit, see here for more info on livestreamer .
I tend to watch the crime stream often so i created a .bat file by opening notepad, pasting in this one line
livestreamer http://vaughnlive.tv/crimecentral best
save file as crime.bat and viola we have just created a shortcut to that stream, that might be handy for those who don’t like command prompt or powershell.
EDIT: I filed a bug with livestreamer dev due to streamlive.to having changed their URL syntax which now renders this post obsolete.
This is just a quick tip i stumbled upon and i think ipad owners will approve.
Being a long time Android user i am new to the ipad, the ipad air 2 was under the tree so i set about tweaking it to my liking, on Android one of my favourite apk’s is the Dragon VLC Player it allows me to stream all the popular TV shows and live sports to my Android tablet best of all it’s free on Android.
So i then set about finding this for the ipad, alas it is indeed for sale in the app store but before i shelled out the 8 quid for it i looked around, after some trial & error i installed oplayer from the app store then once installed i opened up oplayer’s settings and i changed the players built in browsers homepage to http://mobileonline.tv this gives oplayer the exact same functionality as the £8 Dragon VLC Player, allowing us to access ilive.to and stream all the things, one has to just click on the hls or rtmp url’s [desktop users can ofc use these url’s in VLC etc. ] and chosen stream will open in oplayer. I hope someone finds this as useful as i do.
Happy New Year
